Architectural home in Brisbane

SHOWCASE 19

ROCKY

Nestled down a long private drive in the heart of Brisbane’s inner city Paddington, this breathtaking custom family retreat boasts five bedrooms and a media room, pool, gym, library and garage. Impeccably designed and built, the home balances its expansive size and bold industrial feel with a genuine warmth that comes from the use of natural timber and its bright, airy spaces. Throughout the home, Bradnam’s black aluminium windows and glass doors evoke the industrial feel while maximising the beautiful views, natural light and airflow.

SPACIOUS, BREEZY DESIGN

Creating big, airy spaces that allow even the largest families to spread out with ease is central to the home’s design.

Throughout the home, large fixed windows draw in plenty of natural light and showcase the views to the pool and the ground floor and second-storey gardens. Louvre windows are strategically placed to enable constant breezes to flow through the home via adjustable horizontal blades—minimising the need for air conditioning. Glass doors in the kitchen and multi-purpose room open completely to introduce yet more airflow into the home.

Stunning pool and garden views

The ultimate entertainer’s paradise – a beautiful fully tiled pool, BBQ and entertaining area are the focal points of the home.

Bradnam’s large aluminium sliding doors lead seamlessly from the timber-accented kitchen and dining bar to the alfresco dining and pool area. These create the perfect indoor/outdoor living and entertaining experience for Brisbane’s tropical climate. The home’s intelligent design showcases the pool from all five bedrooms through a series of fixed and louvre windows. The homeowners can also enjoy uninterrupted pool views while keeping fit, thanks to the special glass used in the downstairs gym.

Open industrial spaces

The home features steel beams, concrete, brick, aluminium and timber, with tall glass panels and high ceilings creating an open, industrial feel.

A soaring 9 m entrance features QLD’s largest residential sky zone. And a custom-built 3.6 x 3.6 m skylight allows sunlight to flood in. To maximise the feeling of space and draw in plenty of natural light, the design features 3.6 m high ceilings rather than the standard 2.4 m. A series of custom-made extended glass doors and windows from Bradnam’s work seamlessly with the elevated ceiling, further opening up the home while adding to the industrial feel.

This stunning custom home was built by Hayward Developments.
